Modern House Numbers Handcrafts House Numbers for Homes and Multi-Family Projects
Some companies start with a business plan. Modern House Numbers started with a home renovation and a set of address numbers that did not exist yet.
Modern House Numbers handcrafts house numbers for homes and multi-family projects. Modern House Numbers makes numbers, letters, plaques and decals from solid recycled aluminum. Modern House Numbers was founded in 2008 by Brandy and Rick McLain. Modern House Numbers ships its address signage nationally and internationally.
How Modern House Numbers Began
In 2008, Brandy and Rick McLain were finishing their home renovation and could not find the address numbers they wanted. They drew on their backgrounds in architecture and construction to make their own. When neighbors started asking where they got them, the McLains realized there was an opportunity to help others add curb appeal.
Today, every Modern House Numbers product is still handcrafted by the company's team.
Architect-Designed House Numbers
Modern House Numbers describes its approach simply: thoughtfully designed, impeccably crafted and simple to install. "As architects we know that details are the heart and soul of every project," the company says. Its design approach is to create accessible, made-to-order products by blending thoughtful, simple design with durable materials.

What Goes Into Modern House Numbers Products
The collection includes modern numbers, letters, plaques and decals. The products are made to order and crafted from solid, recycled, 3/8-inch thick aluminum. Each order includes a drilling template and mounting hardware for an architectural-quality installation.
- Material: solid, recycled, 3/8-inch thick aluminum
- Range: numbers, letters, symbols, plaques and decals
- Choice: 7 fonts, 5 finishes and 5 sizes for numbers and letters
- Finishes: brushed aluminum sealed with a water-based UV protectant, or powder coat in matte black, white, matte brass and dark bronze
- Installation: concealed hardware for a floating or flush mount, plus a drilling template
Durable Finishes for Strong Sun and Coastal Air
The brushed aluminum products are sealed with a matte UV protectant. The powder coat finishes can withstand the harsh conditions found in coastal and industrial areas and are longer lasting than conventional paint, and the company recommends powder coat for those locations.
Handcrafted House Numbers in Real Projects
The company's own projects show the work in context. At The IVY Luxury Apartments, a 70-year-old, 37-unit complex, Modern House Numbers supplied 'Santa Barbara' monument letters and numbers, custom 'Palm Springs' unit plaques and garage numbers and letters, all helping the owner blend the new with the old.
From One Home to Projects Nationwide
What began as one renovation now serves homes and properties nationwide, with international shipping available. The company's product guidance covers single-family homes, multi-family buildings, townhouses, condominiums, apartments, hotels, rental properties, offices, commercial buildings, medical and dental offices, retirement homes and interior suite numbers, all made in the same workshop.
Modern House Numbers: A National Maker of Modern Address Signage
"A more beautiful world, one number at a time" is how Modern House Numbers sums up its mission. Founded in 2008 by Brandy and Rick McLain, Modern House Numbers designs its numbers, letters and plaques as architects and makes them as craftspeople, so homeowners and property owners can create modern curb appeal that expresses their style.
